Do they really or is that sarcasm? The kurds I would think would be an ally. They currently invade a nato country. They fight ISIS. They mainly stay out of syria. Putin would be wise to turn them to his side because they would then be an even stronger ideological opponent to the turkish regime and turkey to placate the that constituency might take less pro-us positions in the future. Yeah, we currently fund them but then you're acquiring a preequiped asset with real human capital.
Maybe that is why they are our friend. They'd be such a great Russian ally that we've bought them off no matter the cost. With the Russians all they would get is enough to continue to exist, not oulas and moohlahs that the top brass can drain off and still remain operational.
