Conservatives more than anyone else think he still matters, only because they love an excuse to get up in arms about their topic de jure... anything that lets them grab onto that sweet sweet victimhood status that everyone in this culture craves so voraciously.

The pope started talking about climate change and that really started fucking with the Fox news narrative of only god being able to change the weather. So now the conservative corporate Koch machine has set about discrediting this pope. I could care less about the pope but it is god damn funny the lengths these people will go to not to be wrong.

Looking at your comment history I can tell that this observation will fall on deaf ears, but... The world is not America. America is not the world. Thus, although the Pope is not a huge deal in America, he is in the rest of the world (which again is NOT America).
