"If we began with that goal, they would have never signed up"

The Onion's video segments are so much better than their text articles, and their articles are still damn hilarious.

Some people see the mistakes of history and try to learn from it, others see the mistakes and try to improve on it. Reddit is in the process of executing a very well developed mistake.

We can fuck it up worse, we have the technology.

Reddit decided to build a community which built their own content.. then somewhere along the way, Reddit said "no, we know what's best for you..so we're making changes to your content and what you want to see". WTF?

I will reuse a great point I made regarding /gonewild. At first it was up for any girl to post whatever they wanted to. Slowly but surely the more fit ones were upvoted and glorified..they were cheered. The chubbier girls went on to make a "curvy" subreddit. Then what happened next was.. the curvy girls (actual curves, not fat speedbumps) were submitting there.. and they kicked out the fat girls.. and the fat girls had to make a whole new place to go. Eventually it ended up with a subreddit for girls so fat, they are immobile!..no kidding, don't go look. Just don't.

So what did that tell us? The takeaway is that from a court of entirely anonymous opinion, from user created content, from people from all walks of life, and from every nook of this planet, the people said 'no fatties". The users created what they wanted, and the result was "X". Reddit and some SJW's didn't like the result, but it's what the people, the users wanted. How do you then go tell the users "you're wrong for your opinion"? Ugh

They encourage discussions with different points of views but they are not a "free speech platform." They are developing this mistake quite well.

My personal favorite Onion headline:

School Bully not so tough since being molested.

... now who says rape jokes can't be funny sometimes?

Yeah. The Onion is to a news website as the Daily Show is to the Today Show.

If you're into gaming, ESEX does the same thing. Their articles are hilarious mostly because they're so spot on

http://esportsexpress.com/2015/07/frankieonpc-issues-dmca-takedown-notice-to-csgo/ for example covers CS:GO and the drama caused by frankie cheating and then issuing a dmca takedown of a video criticising him, whilst also referencing previous incidents involving ESEA where they turned their anticheat client into a bitcoin mining botnet and (years later) made a video mocking other anticheats by using a guy with down's syndrome to represent what other anticheats were like

Some of the LoL articles on ESEX are outright hilarious, they've had me in fits of hysterical laughter. This one on Dyrus had me ruin a keyboard by spitting out my coffee as soon as I hit the poster. http://esportsexpress.com/2015/05/dyrus-runs-away-from-home-to-play-league-of-legends/

Yep, when I think of how great the Onion's video segments are, that is the go-to example.

This is SO prophetic, pearls of wisdom in a parody site. Reddit might sue them for stealing their strategy!
