Why should they? These are mostly families with young children standing on the sidelines. And there were literally hundreds of police and fire department public servants working the event. My only criticism is they should have been given the green light to assist earlier than they did. However, the selflessness of those serving in the FDNY and NYPD cannot be questioned given the remarkable acts of bravery they performed only 4 short years later.
