The continent of Africa is a paradise, with no harsh winters to thin the herd. The gibs culture only weakens the gene pool and it discourages critical thinking. In Africa, physique and kleptomania is what passes on successfully.

Actually if you want to look at the defining event, look at the cataclysmic Toba eruption. This seems to have been the turning point for human intelligence.

Western Africa and Southern India were devastated and humans in these places almost went extinct. The survivors are the ones that later left Africa to colonize Eurasia in it's entirety and replaced the neanderthals and denisovians. They were the first people to create art.

There was little flow back into Africa outside of the great rift valley so Africans haven't really benefited from that bottleneck event.
