Awesome! Just great!

I learned that story of turtle shells years ago in college! The article did skip the idea of simple characters can also just be pictographs like sun, moon and mountain but that is common knowledge compared to the origins found on bones.

I didn't know that Chinese were so little to start with! 2,000 is what you have to know in Japanese and there is normally like the article mentioned some where up to another 3,000 that you'd probably come across during your life time. Although Japanese uses fewer characters it also has to deal with 2 extra character sets that can combine with characters compared to Chinese which only uses characters and those characters stay as single usage normally.

I didn't realize why character font sets were so expensive until this article but it makes perfect sense now.

The example of horse was also very good! I couldn't read the modern version because the Japanese use oy the older regular style.

Anyway, this was a really good read and I think it should be easy enough for a person who doesn't understand these characters a simple enough understanding to appreciate the art and effort needed to understand what is involved.

That was a very nice read. Thanks, OP.
