Salon needs to be flooded with accusations of racism for this. They need to know what it feels like to have any credible argument ignored while being bombarded with name calling.

I would agree with you except this isn't a piece I want to see tainted like that. Noah is a tool and needs to be replaced. There are lots of better comedians out there that could use the work, and we don't need "CNN Light" running The Daily Show through this election cycle.

No, Jon Oliver's show is good about 80% of the time.

Leftist - a word used in online comment sections by trolls with a limited vocabulary and no critical thinking skills.

I love how the left is blaming The Trevor for the Daily Shows failure.... When in reality its cause the left lost its mind and quit being funny.

Irony is I liked Noah at first. He was more goofy and less preachy and is good at impressions and timing, then the writers slowly fucked it up again. The last year and a half of the daily show was shit, Stewart was clearly phoning it in. There was shit that seemed out of place and weird, like Stewart attacking Biden for anti-semetic coments (when Clinton was hinting at running). Covering the same stories for weeks when new shit was happening.

Also why are they placing all blame on Trevor Noah. Colbert is still shitting up 4th place on late night TV... (yeah, 4th in ratings out of the 3 late night shows running in the same time slot) why not blame him? Why not blame [le current year] man for not hitting hard enough? What about Larry Wilmores "real time for black people" knock off?

Humor is a weather vein of truth. Straw mans and forced political opinion aren't funny.

Wonderful quote, I hope you won't mind if I end stealing it at some point. (I'm terrible at names and remembering where I read stuff)

Bill Maher is still spot on and rails on the annoying PC culture more than voat. Whether you think John Oliver is funny, you have to admit they don't just blatantly lie and twists facts like the daily show.

Normally I'd agree about Bill (John Oliver distorts facts and appears to be researched if you aren't paying attention.) The last Bill Maher was off. It's becoming clear Bill is terrified of a Trump presidency (for good reason, guy sued him). He was desperate to grab at straws to shut down those who mock Hillary, and of all celebs that talk about moving to canada, Bill just may do it. Listen to the realtime podcast for last weekend and you will see what I'm talking about. Bill is scared.

Is that why there's no right wing comedic equivalent of Colbert?

just because humor exists doesn't mean you're going to be spoonfed it by the establishment. there are plenty of "right wing comedic equivalents" of colbert, whatever the fuck that means, you just have to find it online, where freedom is.

This is an interesting question BC although there isn't one now, there soon will be. Reason is that the ideology "in power" always plays Straight Man to the funny, nimble, counterculture ideology NOT in power.

When Obama took office, it was after 8 years of conservative rule with a very straight, dumb-acting President who was fun and easy to make fun of. Because GW and the Republicans were in power, anyone who poked fun at them had to have good points, and looked cool because if you're a little guy poking fun at a big guy, that's fuckin hilarious.

That's why black humor up till recently has always been so funny- blacks had less power, so when they act cheeky and make good points about how lame Whitey is, it's funny.

But now the shoe is on the other foot. Right Wingers with good points and funny delivery are going to start slaying. Trump is the beginning.

Stewart left a nearly impossible standard to match, but Noah is the most unwatchable personality on late night.

When he first made his debut - the first time I heard Noah's joke about leaving the airport with his hands up, I laughed. The second time I heard it I cringed a little; wondered if he had anything else to joke about besides race relations. And then ... he wasn't funny anymore. Like, not at all. And then John Oliver went full SJW and stopped being funny. But yeah, Stewart owned the Daily Show. Without him it's done.

The news department in comedy central went to hell. Wilmore isn't exactly the gold standard either. This isn't exactly political regarding conservative or liberal. It is just kneejerk liberal without an intelligence behind it.

Wilmore is even worse, based on his content you might as well rename it to The BLM Show.

Oliver is terrible except when he goes after thing like smoking.

I think he should focus on subjects like bike helmets, condoms, and other safety equipment.

That guy missed his calling as a writer/producer/director/actor for hilarious but entertaining safety videos and/or PSA's.
