A great read for marketing majors is When Advertising Tried Harder. The Volkswagen ad is one of the best ones. What stands out about the book is that the ads are completely bereft of an ideological agenda--they're just there to sell a product to white Americans and make it appealing. No "toxic masculinity" razor ads, no commercials where the white male is the idiot and the women and black men are the heroes, no fictional fantasy-land mixed-race couples where a black father somehow sticks around with his kids, no fat chicks whatsoever.

Another plus is that, unlike Aunt Jemima and Cream of Wheat ads, there's no propaganda about how slavery was wonderful and whites should want black servants. The minstrel-show-type ads in the Jim Crow Museum are like the Reddit posts that portray pitbulls as cute, cuddly creatures totally to have around small children. Rastus, Sambo, Tom and Mammy are portrayed as funny goofballs who never rape whites, murder whites, torture whites, or riot and destroy white homes and property--Sambo and Rastus just take out their sexual desires on black women and their violent impulses on black men. In reality, pitbulls are vastly overrepresented in bite statistics--thanks to being bred for it and being raised viciously by Sambo and Rastus--and pitbull bites cause much more severe injuries. In reality, Channon and Christian Newsom being raped, tortured and murdered wouldn't have happened in a place that didn't have blacks, blacks that were brought over because a small, wealthy percentage of white Southerners wanted Tom and Mammy to serve them hand and foot.
