As soon as I read this post last night I hopped on Netflix and watched the Documentary. I saw one major flaw that I have seen nearly every scientist on Earth make.

  • Albert Einstein NEVER stated that "nothing can travel faster than the speed of light". His "Theory of Special Relativity" states that nothing "can accelerate to the speed of light as it would require infinite energy to do so" (paraphrasing).

There is no known theorem that says it is impossible to "instantaneously jump to a speed in excess of the speed of light".

The other thing I have a problem with (and admittedly I may be completely wrong in this belief) is the nature of black holes.

  • If nothing, including light, can escape a black hole and a black hole makes light appear to stop (to anyone outside observing it) wouldn't that mean that the black hole is moving faster than the speed of light (by dozens or even hundreds of magnitudes)?
  • We know that traveling at high enough speeds (below the speed of light) can dilate time, in essence allowing the traveler to travel into the future. Now imagine we find a way to build a ship that can resist the effects of a black hole. In such a ship if you traveled into the event horizon and could control when/where you exited the black hole would you not travel into the past (exiting the black hole before you ever entered the event horizon)?
  • Many scientists believe, as does Brian Cox, that it is possible to Bend Space/Time. If you could:
    • Bend space to shorten the distance between two points that are thousands of light years apart to a distance only a few million miles and you then entered a ship and traveled between those two points; wouldn't appear (to an outside observer) that you just traveled faster than the speed of light by thousands of magnitudes?
    • Bend time (life cone) back upon itself so that your future now intersects with your past that would be time travel, but wouldn't it also appear that you traveled fast enough (past the speed of light) to roll back time (think Superman flying so fast around Earth he rolled back time so he could save everyone)?
