I don't shave very often (I have those Brad Pit genetics) and decided to get a straight razor after my store stopped selling razor blades that fit my old Gillette razor.
I spent quite a bit of time reading different reviews and finally decided on getting the "Classic Necessity" Straight Razor with 100 Blades.
Here's a pic
Now, I was nervous at first cause ((((Hollywood)))) depicts shaving with a straight razor as very difficult and getting lots of nicks and cuts however. I had no problems whatsover! I had an amazingly close shave with minimal issues. The only difficult spot I had was on the corner just bellow my chin that I ended up getting a razor burn because I couldn't angle correctly and get the last few remaining hairs.
All in all, I highly recommend straight razors, I felt like a boss shaving. It does take some time though, so if you are in a hurry this isn't your cup of tea.
Edit: I forgot to mention it's $24 dollars for the set of 100 blades! The other reason I got the straight razor was that my friend just signed up for the 'dollar shave club' (which costs way more than a dollar) and this set was so much cheaper! Basically I have enough blades to probably last 3 years.

Straight razor shaving is the only way to go. When you are ready, get one that you strop, not one with disposable blades, you will enjoy it even more. I recommend dovo brand.

Fuck no! I'm not that brave! I'll be honest and say that I did hold the blade and look down at my balls acouple of times though

Get a decent brush for lathering up and get a cake of shaving soap (try to get one with sandalwood), makes a big difference.

I was thinking about it, why sandalwood? Does it smell better?

The straightedge razor strips a lot of natural oil from the skin, sandalwood can help soothe any irritation. Plus it smells nice.

I thought about getting a safety Razor too, does it cut well? People get misled thinking that straight or safety razors don't cut as good cause it's one blade

I buy a package of 12 Bic single blade disposable razors. They're about $3 a package (or less, can't remember, but they're cheap). I get a new one out on Sunday and use it all week, then throw it away and get a new one. So that works out to about 3.5 cents a day. I've never understood paying a bunch of money for a fancy multi-bladed razor. You just need one blade.
