Swearing in general is not uncivil, but swearing at people is. So, perhaps there should be a rule against swearing at people.

I guess I'll vote 0.

I'll still vote 0. Ultimately, it doesn't bother me either way. Thanks for letting us share our opinion.

I agree with this. Like you, I swear a lot IRL and online. My favorite times online were had when I was part of a CS:S/gaming community that disallowed it. It's very refreshing and enforces a sort of "moral code" for lack of a better term, it also tends to get the community to police itself.

I want you to not get a big head of being a mod and imposing rules that aren't necessary.

I don't care who wants to rule. The sub was great without it.

-1. My drunk uncle would always swear at the dinner table.

Because that is what drunk uncles do.

I would prefer that swearing be disallowed - edited if possible, deleted if not.

Why?

Because the ONLY thing that really gives this sub any identity at all is the requirement of "civil discourse," and civil discourse certainly precludes egregious swearing.

I understand that it seems like a petty thing, and it's certainly not that I'm offended by swearing. In fact, when I post here, I have to go out of my way to remember to not swear, and that, to me, is EXACTLY the point. This is a place where I'm expected to behave better than I usually do, and that's exactly why I post here. If the rules are removed, then this sub loses its identity and it just becomes another Whatever. And we've already got one Whatever, so we don't need another.

It's more meaningful if people behave because they want to in this sub, not because they have to. Definitely no. I'd unsub if this rule were to be enforced.
