If my SO cheats on me, I expect them only to come back to pay bills and to get their shit.
It's the matter of trust. I don't want to have to worry about them. So I make that very clear. I'm not gonna hate them for making a life decision and they better not expect me to accept then back or forgive them.
TBH, if they dropped a couple of hundreds of thousands in my account ... Hmm, maybe I'd be shallow enough to take them back. ;-)

if it is a matter of trust, why would money fix it?

I said that I'd take them back. Never said I'd trust them again.
Look at this realistically, if one partner made millions a year but fucked around on the side. Would you blindly ignore that fact because you had everything you wanted or would you walk away because of "higher" morals? Movie actors/actresses, sports stars, musicians and people who made a windfall in IT come to mind.
I did say I'd be shallow if I accepted money as a way to forget.
I could expand this on to other situations were at times a couple may have married for family reasons and thus never had a true "love" connection yet years later after hormones give out the couple are happily married and mutual "love" exists and the 2 wouldn't consider divorce.
Love matures over the span of a relationship.
