Capital punishment stops the perpetuation of evil by a given person. Capital punishment is not retribution. Retribution is something that can only be carried out appropriately by God. For most of us, God's mercy and grace is an earnest need. Fortunately, I have experienced God's mercy and grace. The peace that God provides with the mere acceptance of His ways is incredible. Of course, I had to accept that my ways weren't working.

Mercy is a gift that requires acceptance. Remember the rich man who begged from a place of torment, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue."
