I believe there are many years of research and much active tracking of influenza across the world. As the flu virus mutates, well-established laboratories seek to make the best guess of what permutation of flu we’ll be seeing months before the flu hits. Once they’ve decided, they gin up production so there’s enough to offer in the fall of each year. Don’t have that infrastructure in place for COVid 19. And, if I’m not mistaken, corona style viruses have more permutations possible. This isn’t Star Trek. Vaccines are not always so instantly discoverable.
