That was a great movie. Even at the height of the Cold War, when Russia was the center of a repressive communist empire, we didn't have the hatred and paranoia directed at Russia as we do today. We could laugh about the conflict. We knew that Russians were people just like us.

What has changed today is that much of the west is embracing anti-Christian cults of homosexuality and abortion, while Russia has become the defender of Christianity in the Middle East. Even those who don't buy the constant Russia hysteria are paranoid about Russia's allies. Trump himself is accused of being Putin's puppet yet he can call the Russian allied general Soleimani a terrorist and 80% of the people on this sub will buy it.

I grew up in the 60s in a neighbourhood that was about 1/3 displaced persons whose parents had fled Eastern Europe. On Jewish holidays, the other 2/3 of the school would be away, so we would watch movies and play games. I must have seen that movie at least 10 times. Of course, that means the kids of Jared Kushner's persuasion never saw it. Their tribalism has infected the highest levels of government.
