WASHINGTON - The following is a statement from Nancy Altman, President of Social Security Works, on the topline numbers of Donald Trump's FY2020 budget, which were released this morning:
"Donald Trump ran for president on a promise to keep his hands off Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. His latest budget proposal violates that promise yet again by cutting all three programs. His budget cuts Medicaid by $1.5 trillion - an indirect cut to Social Security for seniors who rely on Medicaid for long-term care benefits (Medicaid covers 6 in 10 nursing home residents). These seniors could now be forced to pay out of pocket or rely on already overburdened family members. The budget also cuts $845 billion from Medicare.
Trump doesn't stop there. He also cuts SSA's already inadequate budget by $400 million, despite the fact that Social Security has a $2.9 trillion surplus. This will lead to office closures and longer wait times, making it more difficult for Americans to access the benefits they've earned. The budget also cuts $25 billion from Social Security disability benefits, presumably using Budget Director Mick Mulvaney's Orwellian logic that "Social Security disability insurance" is not part of Social Security!
Unlike in 2016, Trump won't be able to lie his way back into office next year.
He will have to answer to voters for his plans to cut their earned benefits - especially since Democrats are providing a clear contrast. This week, they are holding hearings on expanding, not cutting, Social Security's earned benefits."

Mar 13 The Democrats in Congress could make a really powerful campaign to defend Social Security, Medicare and Medicade, if they were serious about opposing Trump and/or the Republicans. Or they can continue "reaching across the aisle to find common ground" on how much to cut all those programs. That is how you "get things done" in this era -- you just give in to the Republicans.
Any bets on which way it plays?

He did say he would not do this when he ran in 2016. He would even lose to a pedophile for this. This I will not ignore.

Common Dreams is a socialist publication. They don't even try to hide it and state they write "news & views for the progressive community. We share our readers’ progressive values of social justice, human rights, equality and peace. We are writers. Activists." They are based in Portland ... surprise, surprise ... and their staff list is all left-wing.
My question is ... why are you reading leftwing publications, much less trusting them, and then post them here?

Glad you pointed this out - Nearly every NGO and think-tank are globalist-funded and have the same goals, whether on the "right" or "left." The only difference is how they package it to their demographic.

He is just trying to get the conversation going. By doing this he may get a couple people to support. a couple to oppose, but it gets people talking.

It's also necessary to find out how the author defines "cuts."
Typically, MSM and D-party calls a reduced increase a cut.

Exactly when Trump asked that savings were made in all Departments they were made. Also inefficiencies identified and less money was required to run the same services. All the rest is FAKE NEWS.
