We most definitely can survive without these big corporations! The only reason they’re here in the first place is because they brought in a cheaper product. If they all close their doors small businesses will start becoming more prevalent and we can start supporting our own communities again. People have become lazy and want everything in one place. I think if we were to go back to small businesses people would prefer to support quality products again, instead of the cheapest piece of crap they can find that will break in less than a year.

If people would pull their heads out of their asses and get over materialism they would realize that a table that costs a little bit more but is better quality is the better purchase in the long run. We’re so focused on having more garbage instead of having less but better quality.

Maybe I’m way off base here but I think that this is more economically feasible for the average household than spending a lower amount on a product that lasts much less time.

Planned obsolescence is something we all ignore when it is something that should enrage us.

Almost all my furniture is 2nd hand. I refinish it. I like the history they carry and imagine who owned a piece and what their lives were about.

Do you know people who buy stuff that breaks in less than a year? While it would be great to have more local businesses with inexpensive quality products, just paying 2-3 times as much for a product isn't going to make it any more durable.

OK. I bought a heating pad in the early 90s. It died in 2015. I then bought a new one and it died in a month. Yes, they are making garbage so it doesn't last. I use to cook, for a living so I know some stuff about pots and pans. I bought top of the line saute pans again in the 90s, they died in 2016. I kept buying these pans in BJs, target, etc garbage. After three years of this, I said enough. I just got online last night and ordered my pans from restaurant shop and it is expensive to restock. However, these are top of the line and I thought they would be more expensive by now. Worries me a bit, but I'm hoping to get another 20+ years out of them. The other pots I bought in 90s still going strong. If anyone is looking for good knives, Zyllis, made in Switzerland. Excellent knives for cheap. Hand wash them though.
