I'm not saying I trust Roberts but don't rely on Politico's article alone. It is essentially click bait. Here is one that is much more factual and has material to back the content.

SCOTUS might hear a secret case about a grand jury subpoena

The Politico article does not convey anything but the reporter's opinion wrapped with teed-bits from the stay and reference to underlying case. There is a potential SCOUTS level issue relating to Law and Grand Jury (US Court) jurisdiction against a foreign government. Roberts is in charge of the 10th District Court and although it is true that SCOTUS can chose not to hear a case, the foreign company (owned by foreign state) filed a sealed appeal to SCOUTS citing passed law. The Politico article is written to leave reader with impression and little else.
