Long story short my contract expired (6/18) with my electric company and upon searching it seems electricity doubled and tripled from last year.
- 6/17 - $61 - 1200kWh
- 7/17 - $94 - 1300kWh
- 8/17 - $111 - 1400kWh
- 6/18 - $107 - 1300kWh
- 7/18 - $194 - 1500kWh
- 8/18 - $215 - 1400kWh
I've been basing estimates on 1400kWh and it seems everyone in my area is around the $180 mark, plus taxes and fees. I looked on the powertochoose website and all the prices are based on averages, the companies will have flat tiers so the more you use the cheaper the average but same end cost.
- Tier 1: 0-1000 - $50
- Tier 2: 1001-2000 - $100 additional
- + Taxes and fees around - ~$40
So I'd have to shave my usage by as much as 30% before I would see even a penny reduction.
Or they will will have super low rate of only $0.03, but a base service fee of $100, plus the taxes and fees. So it'd all have the same end cost.
