It seems to be the cheaper one is refurbished. It just means it got returned at one point, probably from a false RMA flag or had to be repaired, etc. If you just need a basic wireless router for normal use, get the refurbished one.

edit: NP means new packaging.

Amazon actually has the "more expensive" one for cheaper.

If you have the extra money, a better Linksys router is the WRT AC1200

I don't need AC though because my laptop and xbox 360 (and apparently the xbox one) do not support AC, only my phone does. As a college student, I don't think I'll end up spending the extra money when wireless N is good enough for what I need. Thanks for your help and recommendations though. I will definitely checkout amazon and smallnetbuilder.com

What's interesting is that AC routers can do N faster than N routers. This should not theoretically be true, but it's been tested and verified at smallnetbuilder.
