It wouldn't have been a problem from installing drivers while something was plugged in. You had something else causing the problems. Glad you got it fixed though!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I had to reinstall Windows recently anyway due to having just gotten an SSD, and it works again.

That makes me think that booting a live linux distro would have surely succeeded.

I was indeed able to fix it by reinstalling Windows when I got a new SSD. I'll make an edit to reflect that!

I know this sounds like a 'no brainer" but I'm guilty of doing it myself, so... ...did you check to see which audio output device was selected? Just because you have a connection status doesn't mean you're using that port as the output.

Yes I did :[ It is the correct output device without a doubt.
