the pendrive linux windows program is sort of idiot proof. impossible to install onto C: drive, and only small usb hard drives are listed in the programs list of recognized drives. larger drives are hidden by default, you would have to check a box to show every drive

you might want to unplug any other important usb/external drives that are small. it gives you a 'detailed' warning pop-up to confirm the usb stick too.

also, you sound like you would be in trouble if you lost it, you should think about making a backup.

Why not suggest dual-boot? GRUB will handle Windows 10, so the only change he'd notice is being able to select his OS at boot.

dual boot scares people who've never even tried linux ever. this method doesnt install anything on your pc, only on a spare flash drive. it is all self-contained on the usb flash drive entirely, you could unplug your HDD.

the idea being afterwards they can decide - knowing linux is a real os that does what they need it to.
