OneDrive (and/or DropBox and the like) are pretty nice though in the sense that they're a lot more redundant than local storage. I'll be the first to admit I don't back up my personal files as much as I should, and I've had the "oh shit" moment back in grad school where I thought that a very, very long paper + presentation project was lost when a laptop bit the dust...and then remembered that I could just get my files from one of my teammate's machines over the good old web.
Not saying anyone should count on these services as a backup solution, but I've used both OneDrive and DropBox for a long, long time, and I haven't lost any data on them. I've definitely had to perform recovery actions or straight up lost data from local hard drives.
