I have the same knee jerk reaction, but the bulk of internet users are slow adapters. For instance my parents currently use Chrome after me hammering it into them to use it for years. Similarly I know a lot of general computer users around the office use Chrome. Personally I use Palemoon (a firefox derivative) as well as Firefox. Both portable versions synced through BitTorrentSync, and both loaded with slightly different addon configurations. I've noticed a lot of users migrating away from Chrome also elect to use some Firefox derivative which impacts these numbers.
