Robots should lose this particular fight. There's got to be a way to confine the wandering lawnmowers than simply communicated their locational data to them constantly from several fixed points. Why not a laser system? Where the robot goes until it's light sensor picks up a laser input from a fixed peg and turns around until the next laser? Why not a pattern recorder? Where you take the robot around doing the mowing while it records the wheel movements and height differences between wheels and then it can repeat the pattern on it's own?

Just a guess here but I imagine the same as wifi and cordless phones.

We have cars that can autonomously manage the complexity of our roadways better than some drivers.
Robotic lawn mowers need to work just a little harder and stop whining.
