This is my main issue with the "smartwatches." They don't actually do anything. They're nothing more than remote screens for a phone which you still have to carry. What a waste of money. Not saying people shouldn't waste the money on them. Please do, doesn't hurt me any. But damn, people think this thing is sooooo innovative. And I'll bet they haven't yet realized it doesn't do anything but look pretty. When I'm spending 300+ dollars of my hard-earned money on an actual smartwatch that replaces a cell phone, then I'll be interested. As you said, it's a nice toy, but it's pretty useless aside from showing how much money you're willing to throw away. All this can be said for android smartwatches too. There's just no real point until they operate on their own.
I remember when Apple used to do innovative stuff, like OSX, now they just making the technological equivalent of Air Jordans. But that said, apparently they've already sold a million of these things and you have to wait to June to get one if you pre-order now, so what do I know? Personally I blame their fan base for accepting and defending every idiotic decision this company made. It's like people can't seem grasp the fact that just because you're a fan of something means that you have to blindly accept every bullshit decision they make, like how many Yankee fans actually liked Steinbrenner for example? So now here we are.
Anyway you can get a smart watch that is able to make calls if that's your thing. Also even a top of the line Android watch - discounting a few of the really high end ones - is still like half the price of an entry level Apple watch, that's just insane.
