How is this a patent violation? I remember seeing a DIY version of a one-wheeled segway (a self-balancing unicycle) years ago. This concept isn't novel.

Exactly. You would think that most of the IP would already belong to Segway regardless of the number of wheels or their placement.

Because the hold the patent and apparently their version looks almost identical. Sounds like a clear case to me.

Patents have to be something novel and non-obvious. In the case of the unicycle, the segway already had the related patent.
