i'm no millennial, but this was a campaign when i was in college. keep in mind that conflict minerals do have an actual dollar cost that is externalized to us and people in the war zones: the cost of lost labor via slavery, the distortion of normal productive economies, and the costs of combating militias and terrorists, etc. we still pay for it.

Hw about Intel divest from that apartheid nation Israel or at least their investments in the illegally-occupied West Bank?

Intel is one of the largest employers in Israel; the amount they have invested in there over the decades is pretty hard to fathom. Divesting from that would hurt them far more than the ill will from some dictionary-deprived moron who doesn't know the difference between "apartheid" and "occupation".

Hey you fucking Israeli shill, THIS IS APARTHEID...IN THE WEST BANK. And it's also illegally occupied by Israeli military. I can't wait until Israel is nuked. Karma is coming for Israel, so enjoy Israel while it's still standing. :)

We shall see how the market reacts to this.

Also, people dont realize that the folks in war zones are absolutely desperate for work. This policy will likely lead to mass unemployment followed by riots due to starvation.

This. Don't people understand that now people in this war tone country won't even have a paying job anymore? How does this hipster activism help anyone in the war torn countries?

Well let them riot against the oppressive and violent regimes that control those regions.

Great job millennials. Now we get to pay more for the same product but it's "conflict free"

I'll happily pay more. You're a fucking scumbag if you care more about your pocket book. No wonder the world is such an awful place.

Riddle me this: if I owned a mine outside a war zone, I now have a vested interest in keeping existing hostilities in war zones active. Now follow the money: refiners, distributors, traders, couriers...

The question for these sorts of things is always "Does it just feel good, or does it actually do good?" I know Intel has been "conflict free" for a while for their PC processors by not buying from Congo or neighboring countries. Have the warlords stopped? Or has at least the violence been reduced? I don't know the answers to these, but it's a lot more difficult than just declaring people scumbags.

This exactly. I absolutely do not give a single fuck if the next CPU I buy is $20-100 more expensive. Not feeling like a fucking SCUMBAG for buying one is worth it.

I don't fucking shop at Wal-Mart, for instance. Same exact principle.

It's not much different than "buy American!" -- sure, it's more expensive but it's better for our economy all around.

The same thing will happen to food prices if we get rid of illegal immigrants.

Good ideas are not bad ideas just because it comes from the wrong people.

Stopping the flow of cash towards nations that are using extremely valuable national resources to fund war, strife, and misery is a good idea. I avoid as many Israeli made products as I can for the very same reasons.

This is probably for the best. Besides, sourcing from more stable regions can lower costs by reducing risk. Or at least that's the theory right?
