I have never understood Twitter's appeal. People seems to enjoy it or whatever, but I just don't get it.

I use it as a replacement for RSS. Too many blogs and services (like YouTube) have removed their RSS feeds, but they will post to Twitter when new content is published.

See, I didn't even know you could use it like that. That makes sense and I could see using it for that kind of stuff. All I ever hear of is people tracking the mundane thoughts of celebrities or whatever. I should probably pay more attention to things.

I mostly use it to see messages about if a website is down or has issues.

I think the appeal is that it isn't Facebook, so it feels less 'mainstream'. Which is why a lot hippers use it. Also it's a lot easier to get updates to news stories in real time than Facebook.

As mentioned, it's useful to track certain things you follow for updates and the like. As a discussion platform it's very suboptimal.
