Why the fuck is homeland security concerned with copyright infringement?

I think there needs to be some sort of punishment for filing false copyright infringement claims.

Up to $10,000,000 fine for each offence, a public apology made on their website in 20px font size for a minimum of 1 month, and for repeat offenders, up to 2 years incarceration of either the CEO or COO or the board of directors (determined by a judge in a court of law).

We'd have something like the above in a perfect world.

And I would like to add that each file needs to be listed, and it is $10,000,000 PER FILE they list invalidly.

A real DMCA claim (which is never filed by RIAA/MPAA) carries the penalty of perjury if it's fake. Federal crime perjury. I think they were even the ones who requested it be there for actual DMCA violations.

But then the system can't be abused as intended.

Four years ago, we were wondering whatever happened to OnSmash, as other sites that had gone to court over the seizures had had their domains returned -- and **it was admitted that this was because the RIAA (which had told ICE about these websites) failed to provide any actual evidence. **

The equivalent of a YouTube copyright strike.

It should be INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty, not the other way around.

This is a perfect example of why giving up freedom in the name of security is a horrible horrible idea. Due to human error, there will be infringement of free speech, free expression and human rights. We as a species cannot help it.

It is not called error when done maliciously.

True. I was thinking it was error in judgment and reason that leads to power trips and subsequently big brother.
