Hey, I think I'm gonna BE that guy! I have no desire to get health insurance. It seems like a huge waste of money to me. I'm young and healthy. When I DO get sick, I go to urgent care, get out my wallet, and pay the man! It's not that complicated.

Can you afford to pay a 20,000+ dollar hospital bill from a hospital that may not offer flexible if any financing options? Insurance is worth it for the discounted rates you get on services and presciptions. That's what you're really paying for, the privelage of being charged the rates they charge insurance companies instead of the skull-fucking they give people without it.

In many cases the insurance company owns or otherwise has interest in the hospital. They're demanding you pay them to protect you from what they'll do to you if you don't pay them.

The discounted rates are still highly inflated over the actual cost of the drug. Insurance shouldn't even cover prescriptions or services. It should exist for actual emergencies. What it is right now is a racket. You give them your money so that you can give them more of your money. The current model of health "insurance" does not really resemble insurance at all. When do you use car insurance? When you buy wiper blades, or when you get into an accident?

...or if you do, you'll get free healthcare while you're in the joint!

So if you have an expensive medical emergency and run out of money for treatment, what would you like to happen? Be left on the side of the road to die? Or would you go for free emergency room treatment?

In an ideal system, there should be private funds set aside by hospitals to allow them to provide medical aid to those who need it and can not afford it.

However, if I ran out of money, I would die. People die every day. I'm not worried about dying. It happens to everyone.
