Seems like there could possibly just maybe be some kind of motive other than fighting terrorism.

Such as supporting it. Which is what FBI, NSA and CIA all do.

I still haven't heard a good answer to the question: given that many prior terrorists who carried out attacks (e.g. Paris, Boston, San Bernardino) communicated/posted openly about it on social media, and yet were not caught, why does the FBI want more information? Show me you can use available data to catch a terrorist, and then ask for more data.

Or maybe, just maybe, go back to doing actual police work and stop trying to destroy civil liberties.

FTFY. I'll bet ya dollars to donuts that enough comments such as leweb's would get someone put on the lists.

Don't go injecting logic into this. It is the government logic does not apply.

I will be safest of all with the Governments bomb collar permanently affixed on my neck and voice activation that will detonate if I might say something that possibly may hurt someones feelings. There will be no less than 8 government agencies that can remotely detonate or pump me full of compliance inducing drugs. It will be glorious. So safe.

As stupid as the idea of backdooring encryption is, I don't think the author gets the point Jim Comey is trying to make. He acknowledges that legislation wouldn't stop encryption, it would just make it more inconvenient for unskilled people - like a suicide bomber to implement it, and not give US companies the financial incentives to get more difficult to intercept communication devices sold to whomever wants to use them.

Like I said, it's a stupid idea, but you have to know your own biases.
