Very very soon for free. There will be no excuse not to.

There's also StartSSL and WoSign available now too, and even self-signing if you aren't hosting your pages to non-techies who won't understand why their browser tells them the page is unsafe :p

There's basically no reason to not to use SSL now, but there definitely won't be any reason once Let's Encrypt reaches open beta (December 3rd). Can even get into the closed beta still now as well (I just got my last batch of domains whitelisted for a total of 15 altogether).

More porn sites really need to support it. Seems like the only time I see the "You're using XFinity!" logo.

Yeah, fuck my neighbors.

CAcert is free too, but nearly nobody trusts them because of it. Though I have to admit CA certs are anything but intuitive.

Wow I did not know about this. Thanks for sharing!

This, coupled with my recent ISP switch is going to be killer. I get a static IP address for 50 cents a month, I have 2 domain names, and a server in my house. Now I will be set!

As if people need another reason to use Tor or VPN.

Regarding Tor, is there anyone out there that uses it to just surf the net. It is a little slow and beyond my patience personally.

Occasionally I do. You get used to it, plus you can change identities if it's really slow or you don't like the country you're exiting from.

Of course running on a standard machine setup it only marginally increases anonymity. You might avoid a lot of directed ads but not all. You might avoid local LEA but not any national LEA.

FFS people install HTTPS Everywhere extension into your browser. It's built and maintained by the EFF so you know it's clean and based on my experience it works great on 99% of websites. The only time I have to mess with it is on those print your own grocery coupon sites but that could be a flaw with that stupid coupon printer software those coupon sites force you to install in order to prevent you from printing multiples of the same coupon.

Correct. If the server does not support HTTPS then the connection cannot be encrypted. Comcast customers who can afford a VPN service should use one. A change of DNS provider would be a good idea too.

And time to use a vpn. Don't think of them as a reason to do illegal stuff, think of them as a way to keep comcast and att out of your business.

Thanks Comcast for motivating me to install HTPPS Everywhere and move to a permanent VPN.
