Why is only 1 of those 4 things a "crisis"?

Because 3

Excellent point, exactly right, User_0. And I'd like to add to that list that Senior Citizens are highly under-represented in all categories and industries. HOW lNJUST AND UNFAIR, IT MUST BE DUE TO PREJUDICE!! And not because of something like, I dont know, that thing called retirement.

We demand more manual labor representation for the elderly! Line them up and put them to work now or you are a heartless misogynistic bigot.

I saw that quote elsewhere too. It's a silly argument... Those really in power are completely immune to criticism.

I am worried about the diversity crisis in nursing and elementary schools.

[–] bob3333 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago  (edited ago)

The reason there aren't many males in nursery and elementary schools is because of all the proto-SJWs that think any man who enjoys working with children must be a child molester. I know because several high-profile cases in my area where the teacher was exonerated, but devastated, made me stop my plans for a teaching career.

I taught for six years, and this is so very true. There are men who thought that teaching kids would be fun, but didn't want their careers suddenly and totally destroyed by false accusations (especially at the middle and high school levels, where I taught). The idea of putting in all that work only to have everything taken away by some self-indulgent teenage brat who got upset over the fact that you rejected her advances, or didn't give her a good grade on something, was too much. The risk is too high, and the reward (for most) is simply too low.

Teaching was on the short list of things I (male) wanted to do ten years ago. It's not worth the risk of being the center of a witch hunt caused by some kid talking shit after getting a bad grade.

The irony is that by sorting people into categories and assigning quotas for such things, we stop treating people as people and instead treat them as their skin colour/sex/nationality.

It's a natural consequence of the fallacious belief that every human is exactly equal. If you accept that premise, it then follows that every aspect of society should reflect the makeup of that society. And, if it doesn't, then it can only be due to discrimination. The only way to destroy the cancer is to get people to understand and accept that everyone isn't equal.

[–] Wedhro 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Amen to that. Actual equality is not about being all the same or deserving the same things, it's about not being treated differently because of what we are born as or for things that are irrelevant to what we want (for example, privileges for aristocratic people or women not being allowed in schools).

"Equality" supporters are doing exactly that: special treatment to people because of things they have no merit of and no matter what they're actual and specific merit is. The irony is making my head spin.

Talent is a matter of having the interest to develop that talent. For some reason in the tech industry most of the people interested in developing a talent for it are white males. Of all comp sci students only 18% are female, and females who get IT jobs often quit and find another area to work in because they lost interest in it because it became so stressful to work in.

What about over-representation of Asians in engineering and tech? Nope thats fine, its only a problem when its white males.

As a registered member of the Green Party it pains me to say something that sounds like it's coming from Fox News, but it really is a war on white males.

In a related story, The Party has removed an article arguing that Big Brother has created a memory hole for doubleplus ungoodspeak that does not meet the stated goals of The Party.

(Rumor has it, it went down the memory hole.)

You do what you gotta do.

I worked on a road construction crew in the summers because it was the best paying, summer only, full time work I could find. I pissed in bushes, on trees, behind trucks, wherever. Is it easier for a guy? Probably, but not prohibitively so.

That's such a retarded philosophy anyways. You shouldn't force hiring people for any reason outside of that they are good at what they do. "Oh, we really NEED more _____." Those _____ won't do any good if they aren't worth a fuck at their job. Diversity doesn't really do shit. It's like uprooting a tree and planting it somewhere else just for the fuck of it.
