I wonder if this will be a good beginners distro?

Wow this "journalist" is extremely fucking stupid. Last line sums up this ignorant asses logic. "I'm not sure what they think they've accomplished. Yes, it LOOKS like XP, but it's Linux under the hood." Yes fat fuck, its all about the look of things. Obviously you have no clue why someone doesn't want bullshit microsoft spyware. ehh, hemm damn i got heated there for a sec, wtf...

Looks like lxde with a custom menu

That's just linux with a custom DE.

Nothing wrong with that, XP was a damn fine operating system, and things that work well should be adopted and iterated upon.

China is advancing rapidly because they don't give a fuck about patents or copyrights. It's the opposite of what is happening here
[–] Anoxim 1 point 2 points 3 points (+3|-1) ago
Its not really an advancement because they simple built another Linux distro. Now if they had written a whole new UNIX based kernel and developed their own OS, that'd be an advancement.

This what most people advocate for on slashdot as well. Patents and copyrights should be abolished so people can create or improve on whatever the fuck they want.

I'm not sure if I'd classify their arguably crippled Linux distribution as an advance. There are many english version distributions that are xp-like, or can use an xp-like desktop environment.

The copyright and patent system are broken as hell. It's supposed to make sure that people who have new ideas get some money for them, instead it's being used to suppress new ideas by not allowing people to use existing knowledge. So go China, fuck copyright and patent laws. They retard human progress by making it illegal to build on what already exists.

Great, if you want China government spyware watching everything you do. If you are even more sado masochistic, try the North Korean Red Star OS.

So if Windows has been developed for the past 2 decades to provide an optimal UI for people, and China wanted to make its own OS with an optimized UI, why would people expect it to look different?? It's the same with designing most anything. Chances are the top engineers chose to design the thing they way they did because they found that that design works best. If you want to make a different version and you want it to work best, then you'll probably land at something similar. This is why aircraft all tend to look very similar based on their role. The newest 5th generation fighters look very similar to the casual observer, but what you can't see underneath the skin is that they are all very different. Same goes with this OS. The UI looks the same because of course it would; people are familiar with a certain kind of UI. But I'm sure if you look at the code you're going to find big differences.

That's common sense, and exactly why so many people were upset with Windows 8/8.1 and frankly Windows 10 is still not as good a UI as Windows XP/Vista/7
[–] ShampocalypseWOW 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
What happened with 8 is that they optimized it for touch-screens, thinking that everyone uses that now, so using the same UI on their PC OS would streamline the user experience. They obviously didn't think too hard about that notion as they were obviously very wrong.
