Trying to discredit this idea because of other ideas the man has had, such as detonating thermonuclear warheads to expedite the terraforming of Mars and equipping homes with large capacity Li-Ion batteries to expedite the shift to solar powered homes.
The risk of Lithium Ion batteries reacting in a violently exothermic manner is directly related to the quality of manufacture. Cut too many corners, and the battery will eventually ignite or explode; but they have been around for over two decades. Think how many of them you and the people around you interact with on a daily basis and compare that to the number first-hand incidents with igniting batteries that same group of people has had.

Elon 'Nuke Mars' -Li-ion batteries don't explode and burn your house down - Musk, internet might not be the utopia you think it is either.

It's called a strawman argument. A very poor one, at that.
