This is called a Fallacy of Relative Privation. Both are issues of importance, and we shouldn't just stop focusing on problems in the world because we solved one. But we shouldn't ignore one because the other exists.

I am not saying that only one problem can be discussed at a time. that would be stupid. i almost feel insulted you think i need that explained to me. i was trying to make people aware of a similar issue that is going on, that also deserves attention. simultaneously. as well as our own Zero Tolerance issues in our schools.

But it is worth mentioning that some stories can distract from other stories. people do have a finite attention span, and do have a finite amount of articles they can read in one day. when one story hogs the spotlight, there is a certain amount of potential attention taken away from another story. it may not be as simple as one story getting 100% of all potential attention, it may not be a true zero-sum system, but there is an undeniable distracting effect when one story is given an extreme amount of exposure.
