Wow, that's some pretty broad wording.

By the letter of that law, a person is guilty of possessing a hoax bomb if they install a doorbell in a police station.

It could be argued that doorbells don't intentionally alarm people. However, fire alarms would fit the description perfectly. Their purpose is literally to alarm people and get a reaction out of law enforcement (it says any type of reaction!).

intended to cause

Or maybe they just did not understand the law. Was any intent to alarm even slightly hinted at any point in this?

Well, I hate to be THAT guy, but the kid did build an "alarm" clock.

He should transfer states as well. Texas is not exactly the paragon of tolerance. Unfortunately his parents probably can't just uproot and move to some place else.

Texas is not exactly the paragon of tolerance.

I am a muslim and I hear from other muslims that Texas is actually quite friendly, respectful and accepting in general. More than in places like New York

Yanks are just full of themselves and think they're a bastion of tolerance.

Well to be fair, no muslim has flew a plane into a fucking skyscraper in Texas. Societies get prejudiced for a reason. I think that kid just stumbled upon a very screwed up school.

Oh for the love of God. Texas is a state with 27 million people. Fuck you and your mindless participation in the circlejerk.

Go back to Reddit with that shit.

SOME areas of Texas are still like that, not all. Don't generalize a state like the teachers and school officials generalized this kid.

How about he and his whole piece of shit family just transfer the fuck out of here and go live in some turban toilet bowl where they belong. We went through this already with two Chechen Muslim brothers making "prank" devices like he did and then setting them off at the Boston Marathon. We've had enough. Get the fuck out and don't ever come back.

I notice that both Hillary and Obama are now endorsing this kid. I really hope that they will stand by that and use their influence to work on removing the zero tolerance procedures in school.

Nah, that would take real work. Having your PR people arrange some tweets and a photo op is easy.

Hilary and Obama don't exactly have much influence in the DFW area.

everyone is talking about this kid...

there is a 17 yr old kid facing death by crucifixion in Saudi Arabia right now for criticizing his government.

Ahmed will be fine. Lets focus on the kid that is actually in danger of being murdered and left to rot on display in public by his own government to silence dissent.

[–] cky_stew 1 points 6 points (+7|-1) ago

To be fair, you could make that type of argument against almost any topic.

"Everyone is talking about that 17 year old being crucified, but in North Korea there is mass genocide taking place"

[–] blackblarneystone 2 points 0 points (+2|-2) ago

i could, but i wouldnt because the two things are totally unrelated.

this case, they are both kids who are being abused by their government and institutions. they are both victims of bureaucracy. they are both teenage muslims. they are both being oppressed for nothing more than wanting to express themselves.

This is called a Fallacy of Relative Privation. Both are issues of importance, and we shouldn't just stop focusing on problems in the world because we solved one. But we shouldn't ignore one because the other exists.

I am not saying that only one problem can be discussed at a time. that would be stupid. i almost feel insulted you think i need that explained to me. i was trying to make people aware of a similar issue that is going on, that also deserves attention. simultaneously. as well as our own Zero Tolerance issues in our schools.

But it is worth mentioning that some stories can distract from other stories. people do have a finite attention span, and do have a finite amount of articles they can read in one day. when one story hogs the spotlight, there is a certain amount of potential attention taken away from another story. it may not be as simple as one story getting 100% of all potential attention, it may not be a true zero-sum system, but there is an undeniable distracting effect when one story is given an extreme amount of exposure.

I'd get to a different district entirely. And don't build clocks that look like hollywood bombs to be edgy. A stern talking to and detention would have been plenty, but school officials can't be bothered to use an appropriate solution to a problem.

And don't build clocks that look like hollywood bombs to be edgy.

I highly doubt there was an "edgy" factor to it. If you're piecing together your own clock with electronic parts and using a make-shift case to carry it around it in, it's going to look a lot like this (without the fake dynamite sticks) because it's a PCB with an LED display for time.
