Being white and male in the US in 2015 is a disadvantage. We get discriminated against all the time and no one cares or even thinks it's a thing.

What if they all just happen to be white males? You know... like the majority of IT industry?

In only very few circumstances is there a "best person for a job." Usually, you have a couple of qualified candidates that you choose from. And diversity can be one of the ways you choose who is best for the job. Who are you to tell a company who is best at their workplace?

Well of course ethnic and gender diversity can be a way to choose an employee. It's just a shitty way of choosing an employee since those things have nothing to do with jobs.

What? I've been working with Apple forever, and they are about as shitty as any other company. Just off the top of my head, problems I've personally dealt with:

The 2002 iMac had a fatal operating system flaw that would corrupt the system slowly over the course of a year or so. The fix was simply to reformat annually. They fixed the problem after discontinuing support for that system, meaning you could never upgrade to a properly working OS. (The installation disks would tell you to go fuck yourself if you tried)

G5s would burn through motherboards like no ones business, and they never got those Motorolas cool enough to release a version laptop, meaning they were selling full price portable devices with ancient ass technology for years.

Until retina screens, Apple laptops were notoriously lousy with dead and stuck pixels, and their official policy was "up to 7 upon arrival, and 15 within the first year are acceptable factory specs"

The DAC in the first Ipod was so bad that it was practically a cassette player in audio fidelity.

The first Iphone lacked 3g, GPS, and even mms messaging, which were common features on smart phones/ppcs and dumb phones alike.

Within the first month of owning my macbook air, the Apple symbol from the back burnt into my screen. I've had it replaced, and in a few months it happened again. Now they want 500 bucks. Apparently it's a very common problem.

You don't buy Apple products for the quality or the innovation. You buy them for the looks and the name.

Maybe not shitty products in terms of quality but certainly shitty in terms of providing a products which grant users the freedom to do whatever they want with it.

"Diversity is crucial to innovation." said man, speaking about his company, which was founded and made famous for innovation exclusively by nerdy white guys.

Everyone knows that groups of white males are simply not good at innovating. Just look around the world at all of the technology we have that only exists today because of the innovation diversity causes (not sure how it does this, but it feels good so we're going with it). For example, there's the...

There is a scientific basis that diversity is very beneficial, but forced artificial diversity hammered in is what is happening with PC culture.

You can't put olives on a banana sammich and expect it to taste good, it has to happen organically with things that work well together.

Edit: For clarification, anyone of any race can be the banana or an olive, just mashing races together just means trouble. You have to hire individuals based on who can meet your current needs.

Eh, you're both wrong.

Laziness causes innovation. Most innovations stem from "I want X but it's too much effort. I wonder how I could make it easier.".

Diversity of ideas is crucial to innovation. And not only do you have to have people who look at things differently (diversity of ideas) but you have to have people who can come together around the best idea and make it better. That is most easily represented by your experience and/or education. But that doesn't lead to a nice photo that has every little sub-group people like to put themselves into represented. And in the end companies like Apple only care that they can check off a box for someone, and the more boxes the better. "She's an African-American, trans-gendered, female, lesbian? That's 4 boxes we can check off. HIRE HER NOW!"

According to a post that I saw on voat yesterday, his father was a Syrian migrant. No idea if that's true, but since I saw it on here then it's probably from some racist, basement dwelling neckbeard who wants to tell me about the glory of white power.

He's half Syrian.

Jobs's biological father, Abdulfattah ‘John’ Jandali (b. 1931), was born into a Muslim household and grew up in Homs, Syria.[8]

I don't understand this. If Apple thinks their HR division is incapable of picking out candidates without acting in a racist or sexist fashion then why not simply have a preprocessing phase where any information on an application that could identify a person's gender or race is stripped out? Boom, you now get to hire the most qualified individuals without worrying about your inability to objectively consider the merits of people.

Federal law makes it illegal to intentionally hire people of certain races/genders because they are that race/gender and not because they're most qualified for the job. In spite of the the current SJW rants, discrimination is discrimination even when somebody's skin is white or gender is male. And it's not legal. The law is extremely clear in this regard. In particular, this is a section of the law on affirmative action:

(1) Placement goals may not be rigid and inflexible quotas, which must be met, nor are they to be considered as either a ceiling or a floor for the employment of particular groups. Quotas are expressly forbidden.

(2) In all employment decisions, the contractor must make selections in a nondiscriminatory manner. Placement goals do not provide the contractor with a justification to extend a preference to any individual, select an individual, or adversely affect an individual's employment status, on the basis of that person's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

(3) Placement goals do not create set-asides for specific groups, nor are they intended to achieve proportional representation or equal results.

(4) Placement goals may not be used to supersede merit selection principles. Affirmative action programs prescribed by the regulations in this part do not require a contractor to hire a person who lacks qualifications to perform the job successfully, or hire a less qualified person in preference to a more qualified one.

In a nutshell Apple better hope that previously their employment process was just racist and sexist as hell. If not, they just put up a big sign saying, "Please sue me." If you'd like to appeal to the intelligence of their legal department go google for "Apple lawsuit."

Steve Jobs may have been an asshole, but one thing he did that made the company what it is today was to select only the most qualified people for his team regardless of whether they met these stupid progressive-stack quotas. He hired Susan Kare because she was a great artist, not because she was a woman. I'm convinced Tim Cock was named his successor based on this AA system. Jobs was in late-stage cancer and had no real concept of the world around him. Cock is the one running the show now, not Jobs, and of course he couldn't care less if the pink-haired anime-loving feminists can draw as well as Kare, or build a spaceship out of household appliances as well as Woz. The company would do just as good hiring whoever's running Pepsi now instead of this SJW idiot.

Or just take those fields off the job application form in the first place.
