Noob distros are good for linux, because they help people transition from windows.

Or you can just block the telemetry domains and IPs on your firewall. Done and done. Peeps just don't understand networking. All new OSs have to be hardened. I'm just glad Microsoft wasn't so sneaky about it to give us forewarning to block all this garbage.

Accept and evade. Think how much better off we would be if we had to work around this shit just to look at porn. We're raising a generation of paranoid super-hackers.

Can attest to that. I had rough computer related knowledge before I was victimized by my government. Now I do things on a daily basis that would make a normie's head spin.

I have a lot of things I wouldn't want my parents to know, but how many people really use family accounts? In fact I imagine most kids in the US have their own pc where they set up the account themselves.

Features like this should be illegal IMO. I'd much rather have kids looking at porn than have parents knowing about their kids sexuality and such.

Women (mothers) are nosy as fuck. I suspect they love this feature, not because they care about supervising their children but because they want to live vicariously through them like a soap opera.

[–] White_Raven 1 points 16 points (+17|-1) ago

People who feel the need to live vicariously are annoying as fuck. They try to control the life experience of the vic until they have no personal space left. Leave you kid the fuck alone. Check up on them from time to time, but if you don't let them have some privacy, they will find a way to get some anyway and they will be doing that thing you don't want them doing just to spite you. You're trying to raise a respectable, trustworthy adult, not a manchild with a paranoia complex.

How about parents in general are nosy as fuck? Woman here- I've never felt the need to know what anyone else is browsing.

Smart parents should be restricting internet access the same way I got access to the TV. I'm really pissed off my EX got my 11 year old an iPhone with a data plan. She's complaining about how dangerous the world is yet here she is giving a child unfiltered access to the web and social media. It's infuriating. People don't want to be parents anymore and blame everyone else when their kid gets in trouble with this shit. I confiscate it on my weekend and her step dad goes apeshit on me because she wouldn't respond to them over facebook? What the hell does an 11 year old need to be on facebook for? It's insane.

Smart parents should get children to learn to restrict their own time on internet

Filters are very easily circumvented even for children, why bother?

If parents knew their routers they would have logs anyways lol.

with the growing use of https on the internet it is getting harder and harder to monitor kids this way.

Yes, parents shouldn't be free to install and use software they chose on the computers they pay for! Making software like this should land developers in prison!

[–] pangaea 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Would be hard to enforce this way when devs can just move overseas but somehow I think we need to be talking about how sometimes the rights of the children are more important than the rights of the parents

At least tell the child they are being monitored so they will look up how to install ubuntu on a usb stick

Or they could, at the very least, not do shit that would make the entire situation into an entrapment case. Seriously, if that was the only way I could use a PC was for my parents to see literally every god damn thing I did when I was a kid, I would have stolen just enough shit to hock for my own PC that didn't report shit to them.

Ok. I think it's a good idea from like ages 4 to 6 or something though. Just to kind of make sure they're on the right track. Not that I think a "dossier" through the OS is better than sitting with them for a while while browsing, but it's not all that horrible either. And it's not "automatic". You have to set it up.

If MSFT can send parents a report of their children's history, what's to say MSFT isn't sending internet history reports of everyone using Windows 10 to MSFT headquarters.

My thoughts exactly. As I commented the last time this was posted, we already know that it can collect and transmit the data. There is absolutely nothing to stop them from sending it to Microsoft (or the NSA)

Or, don't enable Parental Controls. Parental Controls have been a thing since Vista anyway, what the hell is the kerfuffle?

Because "MS is SPYING ON OUR BITS!!!" is all the rage these days.

Not that they aren't, but this is a bit of an overreaction in this case.
