I hope Windows 10 drives more people to develop for Mac and Linux. It's just ridiculous to see people voluntarily participating in such a large security breach.

Not sure how Mac is better on the security front.

OSX is nowhere near as bad as the disaster that is Windows 10. Not by a longshot.

Apple was rated by the EFF as the fourth most secure company concerning your data.

The only major issue I know of is that if you use Safari, your search terms are saved and reported to Apple. And of course much deeper if you connect an icloud account. I'm sure there's more.

I hope so. Aside from Adobe suite, Cinema 4D and some games, I have everything I want on Linux. Anyways, I could quit Cinema 4D, Blender is also cool, open source and compatible with Linux.

Do you have Terraria yet? They recently added support for Mac/Linux.

Honestly, once Adobe gets on board there will be literally nothing keeping me on Win. Most games run on multiple OSes now.

some games

if it were only 'some', then i'd make the switch as well. unfortunately for me, it's not 'some.' it's 'the majority, by far.'

At this point, I ask that people no longer send in their requests about adding support for Linux using the submission forms. The request is now most definitely on the radar of our engineering teams, so it can be considered for future development. If you haven't already, feel free to continue clicking the "I like this idea" button in this topic so the number of "likes" can still be tallied.

that is 5 years ago from the adobe forums.

Yeah I'm no friend of Russia either, but Windows 10 essentially allows Microsoft to extract data from all clients running their OS. Russia knows this, and tries to protect its citizens and enterprises.

[–] grayk47 3 points 16 points (+19|-3) ago

You realise that this is all bullshit on the Kremlin's part, right? They couldn't give two fucks about privacy of their citizens and are just as bad when it comes to spying on their citizens. The only difference is I can openly criticise the NSA and Microsoft without fearing that I will be jailed due to mysteriously failing to pay taxes that suddenly appeared out of nowhere like Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky, a Russian oil tycoon who landed in prsion for openly criticising the Putin Administration and the corruption between the Kremlin and the oligarchs. This is pure propaganda, that is used by the Kremlin to further instill mistrust in Russian citizens against western countries and products.

It would likely also mean that by extension, the US govt would be able to extract data from all clients running their OS... Perhaps that is what RU truly fears.

Try posting this on Reddit and I bet it gets deleted and/or downvote brigaded. Pretty much anything that goes against the "OMG WINDOWS 10 = BEST THING EVER!!" circlejerk is being buried over there.

Microsoft have shills lined up on Reddit before releases like this. Of course Reddit likes it, they are paid to.

Yeah this is a huge problem these days, it's not even just on reddit either. I find it most annoying when looking at reviews on products; it's hard to filter out the genuine reviews from the ones written by people paid to write fake positive reviews.

Microsoft seems to have a pretty effective and robust astroturfing program. It seemed obvious in any discussion of Windows 8 on reddit.

Windows 10 subreddit

You mean, /r/technology, /r/games, and /r/gaming?

Hell yeah. I remember people finding a super obvious Surface tablet shill in the last few months. He always made pro-surface comments around the same time of day (work hours), inbetween seemingly "normal" ones.

This might the one.

OTOH:

Give it up dude. Just delete your account, even if you aren't a Microsoft employee, we all assume you are. So you are doomed either way. It's better off to start over with a new account, and don't talk about Microsoft in a positive light. Ever. Or we will find you again. cunt.

Fuck, whoever said this to the guy. It's still a fucking human being on the other end.

At least it is real peoples' opinions instead of paid shills.. If some thing sucks as much as windows does, it is only natural for lots of people to hate it..

Unless you think linux is paying shills to go invade places..

Even if that was ever going to happen, the EU would take so long that by the time they reached a decision, Windows 10 would be obsolete.

[–] 1995770 1 points 17 points (+18|-1) ago

Windows 10 is a rolling release model, so there will not be another "version" of Windows. It will stay "10" forever, even though the underlying code will continue to change.

Did anyone read the article before commenting?

Russian lawyers have filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General’s Office

Russia has not banned Windows 10 yet, some lawyers filed a complaint and suggested it should be banned... Lawyers file complaints all the time.

Also, the State Duma’s vice speaker has asked the Russian government to ban the Windows 10 OS.

The Duma is the lower house of Russia's legislative branch, so this request carries some more weight. But (correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think they have the power the U.S. House of Representatives and other similar lower houses have, and I'm not sure how much authority the vice speaker actually has.

TL;DR Stop acting like Russia has banned Windows 10, they haven't yet.

No don't be silly, message boards don't encourage that kind of behaviour because you've gotta get an early comment to get imaginary internet points.

[–] Wolfeh2015 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

It's the same issue with the windows 10 shit. I don't think anyone has actually looked at and read the EULA.

For example, the part about "reading your files" is exclusive to One Drive, which comes with 15GB free online space. It's their version of dropbox, and online cloud storage space.

Guess what? In order to store the files in the cloud (read: off site servers) they have to read your files and copy the data.

Additionally, 99% of the things people are complaining about were present in 7 before 8 even came out. And 7 doesn't even have a function to show you the option to turn on/off telemetry.

I guess there is no getting away from people making judgements based on clickbait titles. Doesn't seem to make a difference whether it is here, reddit, or digg.

1
3

[–] Korin 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

I find it especially interesting to note that even the title doesn't suggest that Russia has banned Windows 10, just that some residents of Russia want it banned. Did anyone even finish reading the title?

0

[–] Balrogic 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

But they'll totally not ban it, right? I mean, Russia wants to be compromised from within by an American tech company while actively engaged in economic warfare with the United States as a part of escalating military tensions.
