so Windows 10 has become under fire for spying on users...logging keystrokes... saving information and keeping it. Now Microsoft will have my banking info, even more of my spending habits.... credit scores.... etc.

Fuck this...This is probably why they made this free. So businesses who were still running XP could feel like they could upgrade finally without spending a TON of money... And Microsoft gets everyone's personal information to do whatever they want with it.

Edit. Guess it isn't free.. but my point still stands

Actually, Windows XP users don't get the upgrade for free. But I agree - nothing is free these days. "Free" usually means "we're giving this to you because you're the product being sold."

I agree except for "these days". Nothing is ever free. You were always the product being sold.

Good point about the free upgrade. I forgot about that..

But still, main point still stands.

Bank Systems Engineer here. Microsoft is not getting your bank information.

My information is over 5 years old, but several BoA customers I know were regularly able to just pull up to the drive through, fill out a withdrawal slip with an account number, and drive off with however much money they requested (thousands of dollars on a couple of occasions). They were never asked for ID despite having never seen the tellers that helped them.

So honestly, to me this is hardly shocking considering their past. It will be interesting to know how they reconcile all the metrics Windows collects in 10 with the various privacy policies banks are required to abide by, but I can honestly understand why they'd want to make the switch. With the ability to setup profiles that are able to move from computer to computer it would, at the very least, be useful to those that don't have a specific office.

But yeah, privacy be damned, let's make things convenient for all of the bankers. /s

I would be surprised if this lasted very long...I would hope they would change something after people complained about missing money.

Now I know it is possible to deposit money into any account, w/o ID, but withdrawal seems like a huge liability to not get an ID.

It can still be done for sure. Deposit an empty slip with whatever amount on it into a 0 balance account, withdraw cash! Several days later the account is negative, reflecting the money withdrawn plus a fee for insufficient funds. Pretty sure it is all automated.

I walked into a RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) branch one day. No ID and a cheque to cash. They let me deposit the cheque, and take out over half the money. No ID. I was blown away.

At the least all I wanted to do was deposit the cheque, and I wasn't even sure I could do that. Not one part of me expected to successfully withdraw as well.

To this day I don't understand how they could let that happen.

I wonder if this has more to do with looking at Window 10 IoT to replace all of thier ATM machines, many of which are still on XP. That way they would have consistency (although implementations are different) between desktop, mobile, ATM (and server if crazy enough to go that route).

Glad I just switched over to Chase, even if it's only delaying the inevitable.

Though I doubt it does much, I use a local bank. I'll be damned if I send my money to a big place to US Bank.
