I would but most of the programs I use are mainly for Windows.

And work just as fine on Windows 7.

When I started to move away from Windows, at the turn of the century, my first step was actually to start looking for cross-platform, possibly open source, alternatives to all of the programs I was using, and switch to them one by one. It wasn't always easy, since especially at the time the gap in usability (when not quality altogether) between FLOSS and proprietary software was much larger than now, except when it came to software development tools and “satellite” software, but it was an investment that paid off in a few years, in terms of both money and sanity.

It takes time and effort, because even when the alternatives are good (or better) than the leading Windows programs, they often have a different approach to the UI (not necessarily inferior, but different enough to put off people that are used to doing things “a certain way”). But IMO it's fully worth it.

(And if you still end up needing that one specific Windows-only program, WINE or virtual machines come in handy.)

We hear that a lot in the Linux community, and a misconception is that you probably don't need those exact programs because those almost always an alternative. That's only if you actually want to switch though.

If you want real privacy, use Tails. All operating systems are like leaky boats sinking, tails is the like boat that could sink the slowest.

Eh, I had my brain set to Too Long, Didn't Watch when it should have been _Read_, but that'll do too ;-)

I made this point in another thread & I'll make it again. YOU can turn them off, but if you don't think M$ can turn them back on without your knowledge (if a certain govt agency asks them to), then you're naive in the extreme.
