That's a ridiculous expectation that will only become more ridiculous over time. People can't be experts on everything.

Why?

We've been moving towards it for many years now. And in no way will I agree that this is something bad to look forward to. Don't you want to be an expert on everything? Nobody expects you to be, but don't you want to? Or you just gave up?

Now don't misinterpret what I was saying: nobody expects anything from you, nor really cares whether or not you feel like you lack certain knowledge.

What you expect from yourself is the topic of discussion here. You should expect what kind of information you're going to share and it's perfectly normal to assume you are able to decide on your own.

If you are unable to decide for your own good, it's certainly not anyone else's problem, sorry. You can ask people to help you but make sure not to just blabber "uh, I dunno", it adds nothing to the discussion at all. When you find someone giving away a product of some sort which that person coded/made and is giving it on good will free of charge I find it very bad mannered to just complain about the fact that you don't understand how it works. It's idiotic in my eyes, and sorry /u/newoldwave but I am speaking my mind here however asshole-ish I might look.

I'll end it with a saying from a recent article I enjoyed reading.

"Thirty years ago, travel agents made our airline and rail reservations, salespeople helped us find what we were looking for in shops, and professional typists or secretaries helped busy people with their correspondence. Now we do most of those things ourselves. We are doing the jobs of 10 different people while still trying to keep up with our lives, our children and parents, our friends, our careers, our hobbies,...."

We've been moving towards it for many years now.

What IT are you talking about because it doesn't lead it to your next sentences. The IT I'm talking about is the unstoppable movement towards things being more complex and requiring more highly focused knowledge to do. The amount of code in Windows 3.1 was vastly smaller than Windows 10 as an example. It took the work of many additional teams of highly knowledgeable people. It's unreasonable to expect people that aren't highly knowledgeable to know how it works.

Now don't misinterpret what I was saying: nobody expects anything from you, nor really cares whether or not you feel like you lack certain knowledge.

I care. And hope others do to, because a free for all of highly trained people preying on the majority is unacceptable.

What you expect from yourself is the topic of discussion here. You should expect what kind of information you're going to share and it's perfectly normal to assume you are able to decide on your own.

No, you completely changed the point.

I think there just might be a small difference between picking out clothes you want and being able to analyze software.
