I was helping my friend re-tile a floor. I never searched any DIY videos, materials or anything. The only relevant data would have been 3-4 texts along the line of, "Want to come help?" He had already gone to the store to get materials, I just grabbed some tools and drove across town to the work site. I used my phone to to play Pandora while we worked. Every other ad was for Lowes and Home Depot. Never had home improvement ads before or since. It was creepy as fuck.

I went to a hotel once and just out of curiosity turned on the TV. (I go to hotels quite a bit but never use the TV. I get in to sleep, then leave). It turned on channel two or whatever that tv guide program is. So I flipped back a channel to see how high the channels went. It flipped to some latino program which I didn't understand so I turned it back off.

So mind you I never connected to the wifi, didn't voice search, barely spent 20 minutes in that hotel room before I left again. I go to see in google now everything that is playing on that exact latino channel the next day. I haven't watched a latino channel in my life besides once accidentally in mexico.

Sounds like batmans microphone on cell phones was more than a movie.

I get quite a few ads related to Home Depot myself when listening to Internet radio/streaming sites that don't require me to have an account. I don't usually dabble in home improvement at all so these ads can't be based off of personal metrics. It may seem weird but it I honestly think that may have been an eerie coincidence and nothing more. Though I, of course, can't say for certain.

If it was based on some data, maybe you searched for something relating tangentially to a broad "home improvement" category days before? Not necessarily anything related to the job at hand?

Could have totally been coincidence. I've been concerned about data security since I was in middle school, and I have been proven right more often than not. I tend to err on the side of paranoia.

If you pay for Pandora there are no ads.

/Just saying

[Also "just sayin'" that Spotify is a better app overall. I pay for both, but I'm considering ditching Pandora]

Spotify does the same shit to me, based on the ads I'm hearing, I'm pretty sure it knows I'm moving.

I pay for Spotify now. I wasn't using Pandora often enough to be worth paying and stopped my subscription when annual billing disappeared(that $10 a year or whatever it was was awesome).
