Step 1: Go to the Privacy tab

Step 2: Turn every setting off

Step 3: Don't use Windows if you actually give a shit about privacy

The right to privacy is not incompatible with the Internet, there is no need to be as pessimistic as DeadFrancisco suggests. People can and do use the Internet securely and privately. But they need to inform themselves about the risks and the steps necessary to protect their privacy and that of others.

You too can inform yourself about privacy and understand the many ways in which the Internet makes it easy to sacrifice your privacy.

Read up on the state of privacy laws in your country. Take active measures to privately use the net when you need to.

Get yourself a public key and familiarise yourself with the use of encryption.

Support services that make a point of preserving your privacy (i.e. activate encryption by default and do not store unnecessary logs about your online behaviour). Avoid services whose model is built around extracting as much information as possible about you.

FFS people act as if all this is new, slapping images of war bs. Shit's been going on for years. Google and the rest of the internet already know a lot about me, and honestly I don't mind. It helps them bring me better services and honestly it's not that big of a deal. It's not like they're doing this all to get all your data and do harm with it. While we're at it why don't we look at the government? They have ALL of our information. Nobody seems to trust the government, yet they don't mind all the services they provide. Does it go too far in some places? Yes, but people need to stop being so fucking paranoid with all of their data. Might as well not tell a stranger your name or phone number BECAUSE HE MIGHT KILL YOU. There's just so much unnecessary paranoia. /rantover

If you actually give a shit about privacy. Your gonna have to do more than avoid windows. If day delete Facebook, stop using Google products, don't touch Apple products, stop using the internet without a VPN, sell your cellular phone, stop using email.

Pretty much walk away from all tech that's been developed in the last twenty years.

Otherwise, your wrongly focusing on one tiny company within an already thoroughly entrenched nanny-state.
