For starters, you get integration with Skype. On top of convenience like initializing a voice call or chat from Outlook itself it also means when setting a meeting you can add a link to a private virtual conference room with a single click. This also means quickly seeing if the person who sent you the mail is online. Is there any integrated (working) OSS solution similar to that?
You also get to see your contacts availability. So setting a meeting is a matter of adding participants and seeing when they're all available. You can immediately see if someone will be out of the office and stuff like that. You don't need to ask each one of them if they're available as long as they have their calendars updated.
Then there's convenient stuff like being able to reserve an available room, integration with Onenote and other stuff I don't use.
