For the general populace, it's not an answer, especially when other vendors are doing it, and having wild success.

Customer installs Linux on their convertible, converts it to a tablet, isn't given a tablet interface, as is the customer expectation. Calls it trash, goes back to windows.

We have seen this happen. When W 10 first launched, desktop Linux reached nearly 5%, today, it's back to barely 2%. I'm not saying it's the scenario I outlines above exactly. But all those users hit something that drove them back.
