I have no idea why people live in mining towns that aren’t employed at a mine.

Mt Isa for example 20,000+ people dealing with lead dust. Are they that brain dead to work out it’s not a good idea to live near a lead mine?

People fear the unknown. This is likely all they've known and feel some sort of emotional connection to it.

Most of them were probably born there and don't really have a choice to leave.

Born there and exposed to lead dust during development...not hard to put the pieces together as to why they would continue to make the bad decision to live there. Come on, goats.
