People have been bitching about this for years at this point. It sure took them a while to give in, but at least they have done so.

Yeah, they were far from ready to give in, when they pushed G+ onto youtube. You were constantly asked if you wanted to combine your youtube account with a G+ account. While you could decline, youtube would always say "okay we'll ask again later" NO! Don't ask me later...

Tbh I'd probably do the same with Facebook as a competitor for traffic after investing millions of dollars in it. I mean people really don't realize how much Google plus costed. It's HUGE. Development/maintenance/servers/etc.

It's really a surprise to me that they stuck it out this long. I do not know anybody who reacted favourably to the initial change.

Yeah. I get if you want to have the option it makes sense. If someone wants to integrate them, great, let them.

But I have yet to find anybody that actually wanted that.

Indeed, about fucking time. When it made a default page they forced on me, I put nothing but "FUCK YOU GOOGLE" on everything. Occupation, FUCK YOU GOOGLE. Location, FUCKING GOOGLE's MOM. etc.

I hate social networks. What I do is nobody's business and I don't give an iota of a fuck about anyone else's business either. No I don't give a shit about your damn kids and their picture. No, I don't give a fuck about your Farmville achievements, and no I don't give a flying shit over a paper moon what you "Like".

If I want to read opinions I will come to Voat where I don't have to put a face to the shit said here. It's pure thought, pure reason, it's about what you say and that's it.

When Google pulled this bullshit with G+ I was ready to pull the plug on every damn thing I had google related. They held all my other stuff hostage so they could shove this turd onto my plate. We told you, "Don't be evil Google" you obviously lost your minds with that one. It makes me wonder what other kind of bullshit they've pulled? Bad ideas and bad people are like roaches, where you see one, there are more, lots more.

Seriously. I used to rate android apps and add a quick review. Since they implemented that I don't. I have an account specifically for my phone and no way I was about to make a google+ account for that.

Good. The reason I find G+ (and FB) annoying is that I'm never sure if I'm sharing something with a friend or the world.

If I sign up, will my YouTube playlists from my old YT account be made public under my real name? Just too much bother and risk to my privacy.

Edit: And I stopped writing reviews on the Play Store when G+ became a requirement.

Sharing is supposed to be voluntary not stolen without your knowledge or consent.

Actually it's pretty easy to control who are you sharing stuff. You just have to pick which circles you want to share. If you're organized it's easier than fb.

[–] Vhaine 0 points 28 points (+28|-0) ago  (edited ago)

If you're organized

So you're saying it's not easy. Because that one most basic of requirement just ruled out the majority of humanity.

I find G+ and FB annoying for 2 different reasons. G+ is annoying because Google integrates it into almost everything, (well they don't as of now.) FB is annoying because I have family there, and a lot of my relatives are uptight. I like Twitter!

Nobody uses the actual social network

Actually a lot of people do. The fact that you don't doesn't mean nobody does.

It's really still a good place for niche communities. For example, I'm a mod of community there that has 27,000 members and it's pretty active.

I do use g+ and I'm not alone. I hope Google still maintain its social network. My circles are more or less actives.

It is used by many tech related communities and a huge amount of photographers and photography communities.
The way you can share pictures and that they are not being compressed makes it ideal for photography.

I'm an active Google+ user and I couldn't be happier with this. I use G+ every day but I want to use it on my terms -- and not have something show up in a YouTube comment section (of all places) when I don't want it to. I think the only thing this YouTube connection thing ever did was make people hate Google+.

In case you have a snarky comment about G+ prepared as a followup, let me just say that there are very active corners of G+ for example a very robust community of STEM users that includes Fields-medalist winning mathematicians like Terence Tao who post to G+ regularly. I also find I get more feedback, and better feedback, on my blog posts on G+ than anywhere else including my blog itself.

[–] MeatPopsicle 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

It also made G+ users hate YouTube. Nothing like commenting on something on G+ and getting a bunch of idiots you've never heard of replying. I never comment on YouTube shares any more.

[–] FPSFairy 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I don't think it's that anyone doubts G+ has its share of active users, it's that I can't for the life of me think of why I'd want a comment that I might make on a random YouTube video, or all my liked videos/playlists, to show up on an account that my friends and coworkers can see and that is also linked to a personal email. If I want friends to see a YT video, you can just send them a link.

YouTube Subscription Checker lets me check channels I'm interested in without even having an account. I haven't logged in into my old YT account for more than a year.

I use an RSS feed and download the links with youtube-dl. I just wish they would stop fucking with the RSS feeds. At this point it feels intentional when they break all the links and remove thumbnails.

Your youtube account had to be google+ enabled if you wanted to quickly mark a video as favorite.

I never enabled google+ on my youtube account and my only way to mark a video favorite was to copy the video ID from the URL, go to favorites-->add videos-->paste ID-->select video--> add video. To have direct access to playlist controls under a video, your account had to have been enabled for google+.

God I hate google+. I'm happy with this change.
